An original, authentic citrus crate label from Santa Paula, California: the Limoneira Company's beloved Santa Brand, with Santa Claus hauling a sack of lemons across a deep blue field.
Labels like this were pasted onto the ends of wooden lemon crates and shipped by rail across the country, so a grocer in Chicago or New York would know the fruit came from the groves of Ventura County. The Santa design was copyrighted by Limoneira in 1928, printed by Schmidt Lithograph Co. of Los Angeles, and carried the Sunkist mark of the growers' cooperative.
Wooden crates gave way to cardboard boxes by mid-century, and the packinghouses' leftover lithographs became collectibles. This is a genuine vintage label, not a modern reproduction or print.
