Overnight shipping won't save every late gift. Perfume containing alcohol can't fly in the US mail, and the 2026 ground cutoff for Christmas is Thursday, December 17. The last-minute Christmas gifts that always arrive are the ones that need no truck: a gift card sent by email, or a gift bought in a shop.
Everything else depends on the date and on what's in the box. Here's how to sort a late list.
The 2026 USPS dates for delivery by December 25
For addresses in the lower 48 states, USPS lists these mail-by dates: Ground Advantage and First-Class Mail by Thursday, December 17; Priority Mail by Friday, December 18; Priority Mail Express by Saturday, December 19.
Addresses in Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico or the US territories lose a day on Ground Advantage, with a Wednesday, December 16 cutoff. Military APO, FPO and DPO addresses are much earlier: Ground Advantage to them closes on November 4, and Priority Mail on December 9. International First-Class Package and Priority Mail International close on December 9, and Priority Mail Express International on December 16.
USPS adds that actual delivery depends on where the parcel starts and ends and when it's accepted. Treat the dates as the last reasonable chance, not a promise.
Those are the days a parcel has to be handed to the post office. When you buy online, the seller's processing time comes first. We pack on weekdays only and take up to 3 business days, though most orders leave within a day. A Friday-night order doesn't start moving until the next week.
Gifts that need no shipping
A gift card sent by email. Our gift card comes in $10, $25, $50 and $100 and needs no shipping. On the product page, tick the box to send it as a gift, enter the recipient's email, write a short note in the message box, and pick a later date for the email to go out. Choose December 25 and it arrives on the day, whatever the carriers are doing that week.
Use the message field to keep it personal: say what you'd have picked for them, and why.
A gift bought in person. Our goods are stocked in shops and museums across California. These carry the widest range:
- Gerrards Market, 705 W Cypress Ave, Redlands: marmalade, perfume, lip balm, essential oil
- Riverside Art Museum, 3425 Mission Inn Ave, Riverside: perfume, lip balm, candles, essential oil
- The Potting Shed, 401 W Chapman Ave, Orange: marmalade, perfume, lip balm, candles, essential oil
Stock varies by shop and changes over the season, so call ahead. The full list, from Carpinteria to the Coachella Valley, is on our store locator.
Which gifts can still ship late?
Anything without alcohol-based perfume in it can travel by faster services. Expedited and express options are offered at our checkout and priced in real time by the carrier. That covers marmalade, lip balm and our Gill Orange Soap.
The catch is cost and weight. Glass jars ship heavy, our free-shipping threshold of $50 doesn't apply to marmalade, and fast services are priced accordingly: Priority Mail Express starts at $35.90 at USPS retail for a flat-rate envelope, and a boxed glass jar costs more, often several times the price of the jar. For a single small gift in the last week, the gift card usually makes more sense.
Can perfume be a last-minute gift?
Only up to the ground cutoff. USPS rules say perfume containing alcohol has to travel on the ground inside the US and is barred from international mail. Our policy matches it, so none of our fragrances can be sent by an expedited service.
That puts every eau de parfum, and every gift set with perfume inside, on the ground calendar. It includes the fragrance flights and the Gift Box Sampler. If a scent is on your list, order it first, well ahead of December 17; non-perfume gifts can follow by a faster service. There's more on picking a scent for someone else in our post on how gift flights solve the scent problem.
When it's already too late
Once Saturday, December 19 has passed, USPS lists no service that reaches a lower-48 address by Christmas. Allow for our processing too: an order placed after about Tuesday, December 15 may not reach the post office in time for any USPS service. From then on the options are the gift card email and whatever you can carry out of a shop.
There's one more route. Send the gift card on the 25th with a note that a box is on its way, then order a gift set after the holiday and let it travel at standard speed.
