Old California Botanicals' J.P. Beall Headed to the National Discussion Meet Competition

Announcing My Win as California YF&R Discussion Meet Champion

Old California Botanicals is pleased to announce that J.P. Beall has been named 2025 California Young Farmers & Ranchers Open Discussion Meet Champion and will be representing California in the national Discussion Meet competition this season.

The Discussion Meet is a leadership competition hosted by the California Farm Bureau Young Farmers & Ranchers (YF&R) program that focuses on collaborative problem-solving and strategic discussion of real agricultural issues. It’s not a debate with winners and losers, but a test of clear thinking, active participation, and thoughtful dialogue on topics that matter to agriculture today.

Beall is excited to continue this journey at the national level—bringing California’s agricultural perspective, real-world experience, and grounded leadership to the broader Farm Bureau community.

What the Discussion Meet Means

Unlike traditional contests, the Discussion Meet simulates a committee meeting where participants are evaluated on:

  • Critical thinking and idea exchange

  • Constructive dialogue and listening

  • Problem solving on complex agricultural topics

  • Consensus building and leadership under pressure

This experience aligns closely with my work in real agriculture—whether in management, consulting, produce brokerage, or building products rooted in California cultivation.

Local and state Farm Bureau posts also shared the news and congratulations on the win on Instagram.

What’s Next: The National Competition

Winning the California Discussion Meet qualified Beall to compete on the national stage in the American Farm Bureau Federation’s Young Farmers & Ranchers Discussion Meet, where agricultural leaders from across the country engage in thoughtful discussion and leadership development.

Says Beall, "I’m looking forward to representing California, advancing meaningful agricultural dialogue, and bringing back insights that strengthen our work here at home and in the broader agricultural community."

Bottom Line

Agriculture doesn’t succeed on certainty—it succeeds on thoughtful engagement with challenges.

Thank you for your support, and stay tuned as we take California’s voice to the national level!
